Canote Brothers lead ukulele workshop, concert in Bellingham

Bellingham Ukulele Group presents the Canote Brothers in a “Fun Strums” Ukulele Workshop & Concert, Saturday, Nov. 15, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 910 14th St.

“Fun Strums” is for ukulele players at all levels. Starting with standard simple strums, the twins will talk about creating individual strums, then it’s on to the freight train and the triplet. Next comes the waltz, the swing chop, the syncopated and the George Formby split stroke. Possibly even the Bo Diddley beat!

Greg and Jere Canote are identical twins whose music is all about having a good time with forgotten fiddle tunes, swing classics and quirky novelty songs. They perform fiddle, guitar, banjo, ukulele and various hybrids, and their genetically matched voices recall brother duets from the Blue Sky Boys to the Everly Brothers.

The workshop begins at 1 p.m. and costs $25. The concert starts at 3 p.m. with admission at $10.

Tickets are at the downtown Community Food Co-op, Brown Paper Tickets and 360-733-6867.
