In 1994, Oregon became the first state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. The film “How to Die in Oregon,” which screens at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Pickford Film Center, 1318 Bay St., gently enters the lives of the terminally ill as they consider whether and when to end their lives by lethal overdose.
Filmmaker Peter Richardson examines both sides of the complex, emotionally charged issue. What emerges is a life-affirming, staggeringly powerful portrait of what it means to die with dignity. The showing is one of a series of “The Art of Death” events in Bellingham. Details: theartofdeathbellingham.wordpress.com
