Bellingham recognizes the International Day of Peace (Sept. 21) beginning with a Read In! Write On! event - a gathering of poets, writers and musicians who express aspirations for peace - at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Saint James Presbyterian Church, 910 14th St. It’s free, with donations appreciated. The event is hosted by World Peace Poets Bellingham. A book table will be available for participating authors. Details: 360-961-2320.
Also, Whatcom Peace & Justice Center organizes a five-hour, family-friendly event at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at The Majestic, 1027 N. Forest St., with food trucks, informational tables and socializing, followed by a peace-theme improv performance by The Upfront Theatre. There’s also an announcement of this year’s Howard Harris Lifetime Peacemaker Award, and for all ages until 10 p.m., with music by The Walrus and Snug Harbor.
