The Seattle Seahawks signed the first of the team’s seven picks from this year’s draft, agreeing to terms with Rutgers safety Courtney Greene.

Team sources confirmed the agreement, first reported by Scout.com. Terms were not disclosed, but it is reportedly a four-year agreement worth roughly $1.8 million, including a signing bonus of nearly $43,000.

Seattle returns both starting safeties from last season in Deon Grant and Brian Russell. However, Greene, a physical hitter at 6-foot, 212 pounds, is expected to compete for a backup position at strong safety with Jamar Adams and C.J. Wallace.

Greene was one of three players selected by Seattle in the seventh round, including defensive end Nick Reed and tight end Cameron Morrah. The Seahawks have yet to come to terms with their other six draft picks, including No. 4 overall pick Aaron Curry.

Vikings give Favre deadline?

The Minnesota Vikings reportedly have told Brett Favre to decide this week if he wants to play this year.

Coach Brad Childress imposed the deadline on the star quarterback, according to ESPN. The network cited two unidentified sources Monday on its Web site. The Sirius NFL Radio network, however, reported later Monday without citing a source that a deadline is not in place.

ESPN has reported the 39-year-old Favre, a three-time NFL MVP, had arthroscopic surgery sometime in May on his ailing right shoulder, but that it hasn’t responded.
