SQUALICUM

Coach: David Kish

Last year: 10-7, 10-3 NWC. Finished fifth in NWC. Lost in the first round of the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament.

Key players: Stevi Day (Sr., MF/F), Lael Atkins (Sr., G), Jessica Wallace (So., MF), Danielle Grant (Sr., MF), Mollie Berres (Sr., F), Emily Sytsma (Sr., F)

Outlook: Kish, who was an assistant with the team for the previous two years, takes over for former coach Joe McAuliffe. The Storm returns 15 varsity players from last year, immediately making it one of the favorites in the conference. Add in a drop to Class 2A, and the Storm should definitely be favored to advance out of the Northwest District Tournament and into the state tournament for the first time since 2003. "The opportunities and potential are there," Kish said. "It's just what will we do with it?" Leading the way for Squalicum offensively is last year's leading scorer, Day (seven goals, three assists). Berres (three goals) and Sytsma (three goals, one assist) should also help from the front line. Defensively, Atkins is in her second season in goal for the Storm.
