Former Ferndale standout quarterback Jake Locker was named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award watch list on Wednesday, July 17.
Locker, the starting quarterback for the University of Washington, was one of 31 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly NCAA Division I) named to the list. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Oct. 27 with finalists named on Nov. 24.
The award is given annually to the nation’s best college quarterback as named by a national selection committee. Previous winners include former NFL quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Doug Flutie and current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. University of Florida QB Tim Tebow won the award last season.
