Damian Hill, 25, of Bellingham took first place in the competitive male division at the Lake Padden Triathlon on Saturday.
Hill’s first-place time of 1 hour, 33 minutes and 15.21 seconds was more than seven minutes ahead of the second-place finisher. Jacob Hartsoch, 33, of Bellingham finished third in 1:41:10.36.
Karolyn Nielsen, 29, of Seattle was the top finisher in the competitive female division in a time of 1:52:36.17. Marti Riemer, 39, was the top local entrant with a third-place finish of 1:53:24.03.
Shannon Turnbaugh, 29 of Seattle, won the recreation female division in 1:05:23.70. Annetta Hommes, 35 of Lynden, was the top local in third in 1:07:45.79.
Austin Clevenger, 13 of Bellingham, won the recreation male division in a time of 56:43.51.
WHITE ROCK WINS HUB DEJONG TOURNEY
White Rock, B.C., defeated Lynden 4-0 in the championship game of the Hub DeJong/Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Bender Field in Lynden.
The White Rock 12-year-old all-stars had 11 hits and held Lynden to two hits. Lynden finished second overall.
Other teams’ placings were: (3) Prince George, (4) Bellingham, (5) Ferndale, (6) Blaine, (7) White Rock (B.C.) 11s and (8) Mount Baker.
The all-tournament team was: Jared Young, Prince George; Preston Kokotavo, White Rock 12s; Cameron Ivy, Ferndale; Anthony Pace, Ferndale; Austin Rapp, Bellingham; Stuart McDonald, White Rock 12s, Hudson Heystek, Lynden; Kevin Irving, White Rock 12s; and Hudson Gratton, Lynden.

Chad Clark, a 2007 graduate of Squalicum High School and a freshman at St. Mary’s College (Calif.) was selected to the Collegiate All American Rugby Team.
The team will tour New Zealand July 14-20.
Chuckanut rugby player Shawn Pittman was the leading try scorer for the U.S. team that participated in the U-20 Rugby World Cup in Wales, England.
Riley Locker and Niki Mihovilovich, members of the Chuckanut Rugby U-16 state championship team, have been invited to the Pacific Coast Rugby U-17 camp July 12-19 in California.
BIRNEL WINS RACQUETBALL TITLES
Bellingham’s Jake Birnel won a pair of national titles on Sunday at the 35th annual USAR Junior Olympic Championships in Concord, Calif.
Birnel, 10, won a singles title in the boys’ 10-and-under Gold category and a doubles title in the boys’ 10-and-under group. He was one of several local players to compete in the fiveday tournament.
