The Ferndale softball team scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to break open a tie game and earned an 8-3 Northwest Conference win over Squalicum on Thursday at Squalicum.

“It was a pretty good game for five innings and then the sixth inning kind of got away from us,” Squalicum coach Rich Ellis said in a phone interview.

Ferndale’s Megan Stepro finished 2 for 3 with two runs. Alainah Hendrickx was 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and two runs, and Hannah Kranz earned the win and finished 2 for 4 with two RBI.

Squalicum’s Natalie Donato was 2 for 3 with a run and Dani Lindsay went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBI.
