Sehome's Class 2A Swimming Championships didn't start off on the best of notes, but a fourth-place finish by junior Isaiah Grambo in the 100 butterfly eased the sour taste that come from the 200 medley relay.
The Mariners' 200 Medley Relay team was disqualified after initially finishing eighth in the opening swim.
Both Squalicum and Sehome's placed well in the 200 freestyle relay, with the Storm coming in third with a time of 1:31.77, and the Mariners fifth with a time of 1:32.38.
Bellingham got a strong effort from sophomore Martin Sloley in the 200 freestyle final, who used a late surge in the final 25 meters to finish sixth with a time of 1:52.11.
Squalicum freshman Rowan King got his first taste of state swimming, placing eighth in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:06.78. He later followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.22), equaling Grambo's performance in the 100 butterfly as the best placing by a Whatcom County swimmer.
In the 50 freestyle final, Sehome's Grambo and Josh Larson finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Larson added an eighth place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.66.
