The Bellingham Blazers battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the final period with a pair of goals, but were held at bay by the West Sound Warriors, who took a 6-2 victory in game one of the Cascade Cup on Friday, March 6, at the Bremerton Ice Arena. The Cascade Cup is the Northern Pacific Hockey League’s championship series.
Bellingham struggled on the power play again with three unsuccessful advantages in the first period. West Sound converted goals on a pair of power plays in the second period and added two even-strength goals to take a 4-0 lead into the final period.
Vladislav Yefremov notched one of the Bellingham goals in the comeback attempt, assisted by Jack Speer and Kristjan Toivola. The Blazers got one more goal in the period, but West Sound answered with a pair of goals.
Game two was played late Saturday night, March 7, at the Bremerton Ice Arena. Game three is set to be played on Friday, March 13, at the Bellingham Sportsplex, as is the fourth game, if necessary, on Saturday, March 14. Game five would take place Sunday, March 15, back at Bremerton Ice Arena.
