Nooksack Valley’s boys’ soccer team suffered a 4-1 Northwest Conference loss to end the regular season on Thursday, April 30, at Anacortes.
The Pioneers’ only goal came by Luis Garcia in the 73rd minute.
“Anacortes has some really fast people,” Nooksack Valley coach Valentin Villalobos said in a phone interview. “The first 20 minutes we were holding on and the defense started getting more confident and that was when they put balls over their heads and across the field. After the first goal my boys got a little shaken up and within 10 minutes they had three goals. Second half they got their heads back in the game and only allowed one goal.”
William Kingma impressed Villalobos with his fitness, running back and forth all game long and helping out in all three phases of the game.
The Pioneers are locked in as the NWC’s No. 1 class 1A seed and will face the winner of the King’s-Meridian first round game in the District 1 Playoffs. That semifinal game will be at a time to be determined Wednesday, May 6, at Nooksack Valley.
