Sehome’s boys’ soccer team rallied behind the return of Zach Wanne for a 2-0 Northwest Conference win over Lynden Christian on Tuesday, April 28, at Civic Stadium.
Wanne, back from a leg injury that has kept him out since one of the first games of the season, and Kevin Sun scored for the Mariners, with Ethan Hunger and Connor McGovern adding assists. The Mariners could have had more goals if not for some close calls on offsides and fouls, Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview.
Cody Fransen was also in action for Lynden Christian after he had wrist surgery a couple of weeks ago.
“They played better by far than they’ve ever played us,” Sylvester said. “It’s a tougher Lynden Christian team than in the past. For us, Mason Rathkamp had one of the best passing games I’ve ever seen. He had somewhere between six to 10 passes that were professional quality. Those passes are rarely made by a high school kid at any level, even a senior.”
Sehome plays next at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Ferndale as it battles for one of the last class 2A NWC playoff spots. Lynden Christian plays its final regular season game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Civic Stadium against Bellingham.
