Blaine’s and Nooksack Valley’s girls’ soccer teams battled to a 4-4 tie in a Northwest Conference matchup Thursday, Oct. 23, at Nooksack Valley.
The Pioneers were led by star forward Tori VandeHoef, who scored all four of their goals.
“Tori was just holding, holding, and she wasn’t running a whole lot. She conserved herself for the right moment,” Nooksack coach Valentin Villalobos said in a phone interview. “Everytime she got the ball they had three girls on her. They were marking her, but they weren’t fast enough, so she’d outrun them.”
Ashley Quesada had three of Blaine’s goals, essentially trading scores with one of the other top forwards in the NWC.
“She had five goals against us last time, so I had a girl in charge of her, but everytime we pushed up they would send long balls over us and try to surprise us from the back,” Villalobos said. “Their last goal was in the 80th minute. Jasmin Zavala was blocking the ball and Ashley threw her off a little bit, which is when she got into the box and scored.”
Zavala suffered a torn ACL on the play, Villalobos said.
Blaine hosts Ferndale on Monday, Oct. 27, at Pipeline Fields.
