Lynden Christian’s girls’ soccer team saw a two-goal lead turn into a 3-2 deficit, before a 72nd-minute goal from Shaye Brandsma evened the score up. At 3-3 the game would stay for the final eight minutes of the Northwest Conference bout on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Lynden Christian High School.
The Lyncs’ (5-6-4, 3-6-2 NWC) Haley Hollander started things off with the opening two goals, but Nooksack’s (0-14-1, 0-10-1 NWC) Tori VandeHoef took over after that. VandeHoef assisted on a controversial corner kick, which LC coach Brent De Ruyter says might have hit off Robyn Van Wingerden’s hands before going into the goal, and then scored two goals — one in the 35th and another in the 63rd.
“She was the one girl that we had a gameplan on and she made us pay for not defending well,” De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “I was disappointed with our overall play today. We just came out a little flat.”
LC faces Sehome Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Civic Stadium. Nooksack plays Blaine Thursday, Oct. 23, at Nooksack Elementary.
