Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team came back from one goal down to steal a 2-1 Northwest Conference win over Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Burlington-Edison.
After the Tigers’ Edie Breckenridge scored off of a steal in the 34th minute, Jackie Dierdorff found Payton Fowler for a goal two minutes later to tie it up.
In the final stages of the game, Kim Dorr found Kim Hazlett for the game-winning goal.
“I thought we controlled a lot of the play, it was just that Burlington played a great defensive game and it was hard for us to break through,” Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. “(On the final goal) the girls wanted to score — the intensity was there. Kim and Kim were completely calm, though. Dorr was unselfish and set up Hazlett perfectly. I was proud of how they responded to Edie’s goal and the tie game.”
Squalicum will look for another win on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Meridian.
