Burlington-Edison’s girls’ soccer team rode hat tricks from Kylie Hayton and Edie Breckenridge to earn a 8-2 Northwest Conference victory over Lynden Christian on Thursday, Oct. 9, at Burlington.
Hayton got the scoring going in the 13th minute, with Breckenridge adding her first three minutes later. The Lyncs’ Emily Roetcisoender answered with a goal in the 20th minute, but another Breckenridge goal to end the half and a Hayton goal to start the second gave the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
“The first half we hung in there,” LC coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “But when you give girls like Edie and Kylie space, and you’re not physical with them, they’re going to make you pay, and they did.”
Haley Hollander scored LC’s second goal in the 46th minute.
Lynden Christian will hope to get back to full strength when it travels to face Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
