Shaye Brandsma and Haley Hollander each had two goals to lead Lynden Christian girls’ soccer over Mount Baker 5-0 in a Northwest Conference matchup Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Bender Fields.
The Mountaineers only managed one shot on goal in the losing effort, as the Lyncs’ defense stifled their attack. Lynden Christian had 15 shots, and all of its goals came in the second half.
Brandsma scored the first and last goals, Hollander had the third and fourth of the game, and Kenadi Bratt had the second goal. Morgan Wandel had three assists, and Emily Roetcisoender added another helper.
“I was really proud of their effort,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “We’ve been in a bit of a drought, so for them to make adjustments at halftime and explode in the second half was a big confidence booster. I was proud of our ball-winning today.”
Lynden Christian plays again at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Burlington-Edison. Mount Baker will look to pick up its first win at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at home against Blaine.
