Paige Devine had a goal and an assist to lead the Ferndale girls’ soccer team to a 3-0 Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Sedro-Woolley.
Devine opened scoring in the 13th minute, off an assist from Jordin Bartel. The Cubs kept it at 1-0 until late in the second half, when Devine assisted Christiana Salinas on a goal in the 63rd minute. Dalaynie Holt had the third goal in the 77th minute, with Bartel getting a second assist.
“We should have had more goals, but the ball just didn’t want to get in the net again,” Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. “Sedro-Woolley is coached by a very good coach and they’ll frustrate you, that’s how they kept it at one goal for so long. We knew it might be like that, so we kept our heads up. The girls played very disciplined tonight.”
Ferndale takes on Squalicum next, on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Northwest Soccer Park.
