Kim Hazlett scored a hat trick to lead Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team to a 5-0 Northwest Conference win over Lynden Christian on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Bender Fields.
Hazlett also had an assist on Payton Fowler’s goal in he 30th minute. Rachel Dorr had the other goal in the third minute, assisted by Julia DeVere.
Assisting on Hazlett’s goals were Braeden Hilleary, Jackie Dierdorff and Michelle Saunders.
“We had opportunities, we just couldn’t get shots off of them,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “Even though the score doesn’t say so, the girls played hard. To go for long stretches without giving up a goal was a good step for our kids. You can only hold off Squalicum so long.”
Lynden Christian will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at home against Mount Baker. Squalicum will try to extend its unbeaten run the same day against Ferndale at the Northwest Soccer Park.
