The Bellingham girls’ soccer team, despite losing its first five games of the season, has now won four in a row with a 4-0 Northwest Conference victory over Lynden Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Northwest Soccer Park.
Peyton Schwinger got the scoring effort started in the 14th minute off of an assist from Mariah Miller. Mia Hodges’ goal in the 28th minute, followed by a Morgan Jones’ goal in the 32nd, all but sealed the strong win for the Red Raiders.
“We’re starting to figure out our identity as an offense,” said Bellingham coach Mark Wright, referring to the combined 26 goals over those four wins. “It’s good that Morgan Jones is starting to get going. She’s a kid that can score. ... And Mia Hodges running through the middle of the field — she’s such a dynamic and elegant athlete.”
Jones added the fourth and final goal in the 70th minute, pairing together a strong defensive game from the Red Raiders, who allowed just six shots on goal.
Bellingham (4-5-0, NWC 3-2-0) and Lynden Christian (3-4-2, 1-4-0) are back in action Thursday, Oct. 2, with the Red Raiders traveling to Blaine and the Lyncs hosting Squalicum.
