The Lynden girls’ soccer team got some redemption against Lynden Christian, defeating the Lyncs 4-0 on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Bender Fields in a Northwest Conference matchup.
The last time these two teams faced on Sept. 11, LC scored a late goal to tie the game.
“The girls were pretty upset about that,” Lynden coach Carlos Melendez said in a phone interview, “knowing that we were capable of coming out and putting on a strong performance. Our kids were really, really motivated.”
Lexi Smiley, who scored twice and recorded one assist, got the Lions out in front with a goal in the 20th minute, following that up with another in the 38th minute. Abby Stevenson and Peyton Fullner each contributed a second-half goal to put the win away.
“(Lexi) was wanting to go out on top and she definitely made a statement,” said Melendez of his senior forward.
Both Lynden (6-0-3, NWC 4-0-1) and Lynden Christian (3-4-3, 1-4-0) are in action Tuesday, Sept. 30, with the Lions traveling to Sedro-Woolley and the Lyncs facing Bellingham at the Northwest Soccer Park.
