Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team rode a strong defensive effort to earn an 8-0 win over Blaine on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Pipeline Field in a Northwest Conference matchup.
The Borderites, aside from one threat by Ashley Quesada, couldn’t do much to penetrate the Storm defense, amassing zero shots on goal.
“We wanted to get the shutout. Our defense did a great job and didn’t allow them to have a shot,” Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. “Defense won us the game.”
Julia DeVere started the scoring off with a goal in the fifth minute, followed by goals from Kim Hazlett and Jackie Dierdorff in the eighth and 10th minutes, respectively. Hazlett would add two more goals, lifting her season total to 12 on the year. Kim Dorr, Payton Fowler and Braeden Hilleary also scored later in the contest.
Squalicum (8-0-0, NWC 4-0-0) and Blaine (1-6-1, 0-4-0) both are in action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, with the Storm hosting Mount Baker and the Borderites traveling to Meridian.
