The Meridian girls’ soccer team showed off a diversified offense, defeating Nooksack Valley 12-0 on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Meridian High School in a Northwest Conference matchup.
Janessa Murphy and Payton Lunde hooked up for back-to-back goals in the second and third minutes, respectively, Emily Brackinreed scoring the first of her four goals in the fourth minute to quickly give the Trojans a 3-0 lead. Lunde added a pair of goals later in the contest, with Ryley Zapien, Bryn Magnusson, Emily Kooiman and Sydney Gospodinovich also scoring in the lopsided win.
“I saw a lot of movement on and off the ball,” Meridian coach Terry Tigert said in a phone interview. “They are really getting a knack for playing possession with each other, slowing down the attack when they are up.”
Meridian (4-1-1, NWC 2-0-1) and Nooksack Valley (0-8-0, 0-4-0) are both back in action Tuesday, Sept. 30, with the Trojans hosting Blaine and the Pioneers traveling to Anacortes.
