Bellingham’s girls’ soccer team scored four second-half goals to take a 5-1 Northwest Conference victory over Ferndale on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Ferndale.
Morgan Jones, Paige McAtee, Kayla Heidenreich, Mariah Miller and Brooke Baker each scored for the Red Raiders. Heidenreich added two assists and McAtee and Baker each had one.
“The game fell our way a little bit,” Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in phone interview. “Ferndale hit the post a couple of times and Chloe (Campbell) stood on her head to make a few saves, but when we got our opportunities we took them.”
Christina Salinas scored for Ferndale to prevent the shutout. She was assisted by Jazzie Ahrens.
“It’s just one of those days where you play well and get the ball to the box, but we couldn’t find the back of the net,” Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview.
Bellingham plays next against Lynden Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Northwest Soccer Park. Ferndale takes on Sehome at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at home.
