Peyton Fullner had a hat trick to lead the Lynden’s girl’s soccer team to a 5-1 win over Nooksack Valley on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Nooksack Valley Elementary.
Fullner scored her first two in the 24th and 27th minutes, assisted by Senaida Veliz on the first and Jayme Smits on the second. Smits scored another goal for the Lions in the 41st minute, assisted by Lily Bogart.
Fullner scored her third goal in the 52nd minute, and Smits scored her second goal in the 59th.
Tori VandeHoef scored the Pioneers’ lone goal in the 70th minute. Emily Holt had five saves for Lynden, as the Lions’ defense kept VandeHoef in check.
“The girls came out hard and we had quite a few opportunities to put the ball in the net in the first half,” Lynden coach Carlos Melendez said in a phone interview. “We had Tori marked the whole game by Sofia Milstead, who did a great job. I think Tori only had like two shots.”
Lynden’s next game is at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Pipeline Fields against Blaine. Nooksack Valley takes on Bellingham at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Civic Stadium.
