The Mount Baker girls’ soccer team peppered La Conner with 25 shots, but Marissa Scoville was the only one to find the back of the net, as the Mountaineers picked up a 2-2 non-conference tie at La Conner on Friday, Sept. 19.
“Our goal was to get 10 shots in the first 15 minutes,” Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interivew. “We came out firing, and were able to capitalize in the 28th minute.”
Scoville made sure of that off an assist from Lacey Postlewait. La Conner managed to even the score in the 38th minute, but Mount Baker came out hot in the second half. Jessica Mata fed Scoville in the 68th minute to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 lead, but once again, the Braves were able to even the score.
“It was good to see the girls come out and play,” Jorgensen said. “They played great as a team. ... Hopefully we’ll be able to finish on some more opportunities next time.”
Next time will be Tuesday, Sept. 23, when the Mountaineers (0-3-2) return to Northwest Conference play and host Sedro-Woolley.
