Meridian’s girls’ soccer team scored five consecutive goals to earn a 5-1 win over Lynden Christian in a Northwest Conference game on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bender Fields.
Emily Brackinreed scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Trojans. Payton Lunde also scored twice for Meridian, and Emily Kooiman pitched in another goal.
“They played some beautiful soccer,” Meridian coach Terry Tigert said in a phone interview. “They possessed well in the back and into the midfield, finished goals, balls were being played in well. Some of the goals weren’t pretty, but there were crosses going in and they played physical and with finesse. I’m proud of them.”
Lynden Christian’s Haley Hollander scored in the 70th minute off of an assist by Shaye Brandsma to prevent the shutout.
“A 5-1 loss makes it hard to find positive things, but we showed some resiliency in getting a goal in the last 10 minutes,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview.
Meridian plays again at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Civic Stadium against Bellingham. Lynden Christian hosts Ferndale at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 23, at Bender Fields.
