Jordin Bartel had a hat trick, and Ferndale’s girls’ soccer team earned a 5-0 Northwest Conference win over Anacortes on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Ferndale High School.
Christina Salinas scored in the third minute to give Ferndale an early lead. Jordin Bartel followed that up with her three goals, assisted by Katelyn Goode in the 25th minute, Rachel Neher in the 31st minute, and Goode again in the 34th minute.
“I’m proud of the way our girls played. Anacortes is a decent squad, and we played our own game and kept the intensity up,” Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview.
Goode added the final Golden Eagles’ goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Bartel. Gonzalez called it one of the best goal he has ever seen.
“It was a diving header, and she turned the gas as she jumped to beat the defender,” Gonzalez said. “She hit her hip on the other girls’ hip as she dove and pumped her head to drive it into the net. She had missed two shots earlier in the game.”
Ferndale will look to continue its winning ways at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Lynden Christian.
