Kim Hazlett netted three goals in the first 27 minutes, as Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team topped Nooksack Valley 8-0 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Nooksack Elementary.
Hazlett’s trifecta was part of a seven-goal first half for the Storm. Payton Fowler, Natalie Shikany, Jessica DeVere and Braeden Hilleary also scored in the first half. Annie Roth got the eighth goal in the second half.
“The girls got on board early,” Squalicum (4-0-0, 1-0-0 NWC) coach David Kish said in a phone interview. “It was good to see a lot of the younger players step up and do really well.”
Tori VandeHoef was a threat for Nooksack (0-4-0, 0-1-0 NWC), which got off eight shots as a team in the game.
“She was dangerous today,” Kish said. “The way she’s been scoring, one of our goals was to get a shutout.”
Squalicum plays Bellingham on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Civic Stadium. Nooksack plays Burlington-Edison on Thursday at home.
