Lynden’s girls’ soccer team didn’t allow a single shot on goal on its way to a 3-0 win over Friday Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Bender Fields.
“It was a strong defensive effort,” Lynden (1-0-2) coach Carlos Melendez said in a phone interview. “We struggled to finish in the first half. So I had to a light a fire under them in the second half. We came out strong and put our chances away.”
It began with Jayme Smits’ goal in the 41st minute and six minutes later Peyton Fullner converted a penalty kick. Lexi Smiley capped things off with a goal in the 51st.
Despite three players scoring, it was freshman Sierra Smith that earned recognition from Melendez.
“She played fantastic. Beating people one on one, crossing the ball in,” Melendez said. “She played really really well.”
Lynden plays Mount Baker on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Bender Fields.
