Haley Hollander tallied two goals and an assist as her Lynden Christian girls’ soccer team defeated Mount Baker 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Mount Baker.
The Lyncs struck early, as Hollander assisted Shaye Brandsma on a goal in the fourth minute. Hollander followed it up with a 17th-minute goal, assisted by Emily Roetcisoender.
Just three minutes into the second half Hollander registered her second goal, again assisted by Roetcisoender.
But this time the Mountaineers had an answer. Lacey Postlewait capitalized on a missed trap by a Lyncs defender and fired a shot past goalkeeper Daphnee Manderson.
“Despite the one mistake in the back, we played a solid match,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “I thought in the first half our possession was better. We focused on simple soccer and in the first we did a good job of that. Mount Baker played incredibly hard despite only having one good opportunity that they finished well.”
Lynden Christian opens the Northwest Conference portion of its schedule at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Anacortes. Mount Baker plays its first NWC game at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Lynden.
