Lynden Christian’s girls’ soccer team overcame a hat trick by Nooksack Valley’s Tori Vandehoef to take a 7-3 win Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Nooksack Valley Elementary.
Vandehoef opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but the Lyncs came back with goals by Shaye Brandsma and Haley Hollander before the end of the half.
Vandehoef scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute, but the Pioneers couldn’t keep up the pressure. Hollander and Kaitlyn Heeringa scored back-to-back goals for the Lyncs. Hollander added one more to complete her hat trick, and Sara Dougan and Emily Roetcisoender added one goal each.
Vandehoef completed her three-goal effort in the 77th minute, but it wasn’t enough for Nooksack Valley.
“Our keeper still has a lot to learn. She made some mistakes, but its nothing she won’d catch up on as soon as we play more games,” Nooksack Valley coach Valentin Villalobos said in a phone interview. “Lynden Christian had a good defense. They have some fast girls and can move the ball from one side of the field to the other very quickly.”
Nooksack Valley looks to bounce back at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Nooksack Valley Elementary against Anacortes. Lynden Christian plays next at noon, Saturday, Sept. 13, at Mount Baker.
