Despite a quick strike from Ferndale girls’ soccer team, Lynden battled back to even the score up as both teams settled for a 1-1 draw Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Bender Fields.
It was the Golden Eagles (0-0-1) star forward Jordin Bartel who capitalized on a Lynden (0-0-1) miscommunication to get a shot in the net in the third minute.
“We definitely had to keep an eye on her and keep her marked,” Lynden coach Carlos Melendez said of Bartel in a phone interview.
Not willing to go into halftime down 1-0, the Lions evened it up on a Peyton Fullner strike in the 31st minute.
“I saw a lot of effort,” Melendez said. “They came out and battled against a good oppenent.”
Ferndale faces Sehome on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Northwest Soccer Park. Lynden also plays Thursday, facing off against Lynden Christian at Bender Fields.
