The Nooksack Valley football team ended its 2014 season in impressive fashion, beating Sultan by 48-18 in a non-playoff crossover game..
The Pioneers (5-5) were strong on both sides of the ball, scoring almost at whim and stifling the Turks defensively.
Nooksack’s offense favored a dynamic passing attack, throwing for 312 yards through the air. Senior quarterback Tanner Myhre threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns, with only a single interception. He also ran for 120 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
“This was a special night for the seniors,” Pioneers coach Robb Myhre said. “This is a group of players that we are really going to miss.”
Never miss a local story.
Junior Connor Beard had 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a 60 yarder of the arm of senior Adam Mydland in the second quarter.
Senior Brady Wood was the Pioneer’s most targeted receiver, as he caught five passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Adam Mydland had 82 rushing yards.
Nooksack’s defense complemented their offense nicely, holding the Turks to only 11 points through three quarters. Sultan was never able to get any momentum going, with only 75 yards rushing and 136 through the air.
The Pioneers defense also forced one interception and two fumbles to cap off an all-around impressive performance.
“This win means a lot to us,” Robb Myhre said. “This was a great success to finish out our season. These seniors are class act kids and great football players.”
