Zach Roetcisoender had 30 points to lead the Lynden Christian boys’ basketball team to a 55-42 victory Thursday, Feb. 18, over University Prep at Mountlake Terrace High School in an elimination game of the Class 1A Bi-District Tournament.
Jake Poag had 11 rebounds, Tanner Bouma added nine points and Nate Hielkema had eight points and five rebounds.
“The team played really strong defense,” Lynden Christian coach Roger DeBoer said in a phone interview.
Kyle Hodge was held to three points by the Lyncs defense, but he’s often a leading scorer for his school, DeBoer said.
The Lyncs were ahead five points at halftime and both teams surged ahead in the third quarter. Lynden Christian kept the lead but everyone loosened up, DeBoer said.
It was Bouma’s offense in the fourth quarter, extending the lead by 19 points, that secured the win for Lynden Christian.
Max Gregg led University Prep with 24 points.
