Nooksack Valley held Bellingham to just four and three points in the second and third quarters, respectively, en route to a 48-30 Northwest Conference win on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Bellingham.
Mariah Perry led the Pioneers’ (12-7, 5-6 NWC) balanced offense with 12 points. Brianna Turner added 10 and Payton Linville had eight.
“The team kept fighting hard to the end, and that’s all we can ask of them,” Bellingham coach Ed Wissing said in a phone interview. “Credit to Nooksack for the way they started and sustained that energy through three quarters. Perry is always consistent for them and had a couple of buckets in each quarter, and Linville started hot with a couple of 3s, but it was their defense that did it for them.”
Joelle Zamora led the Red Raiders (3-14, 0-9) with 12 points, and four other Bellingham players added four points apiece, including Paige and Autumn Jacobsen.
Never miss a local story.
“Paige did really great rebounding (team-high eight rebounds), and Autumn, when she got her chance she shined in attacking the basket,” Wissing added.
Bellingham looks to bounce back against Lynden at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at home. Nooksack Valley takes on Blaine at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at home.
