Freshman Sierra Smith scored 12 points, Elisa Kooiman had 19 and Kaitlyn Mark scored 12 more to lead Lynden’s girls’ basketball team to a 61-17 Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Jan. 16, at Sedro-Woolley.
This was a bit of a breakout game for Smith, Lynden coach Rob Adams noted.
“She played well at the sub-varsity level and has been practicing with us,” he said in a phone interview. “Depth is a key for us, so once she got comfortable with the varsity style and pace of play we told her we’d give her some looks and minutes. She really sparked us tonight. She knows everyday she has to come in and work and that nothing will be handed to her.”
Smith also had four assists, four rebounds and no turnovers.
The Lions (9-4, 5-0 NWC) scored more points in each of the first two quarters than Sedro-Woolley (1-13, 0-6) did in the game.
Lynden will look for continued success at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at home against Mount Baker.
