The Lummi girls’ basketball team couldn’t add on to a strong first quarter and suffered a 64-45 Northwest League loss to Lopez on Friday, Jan. 16, at Lopez.
Lummi trailed 13-12 through the first, but Lopez outscored the Blackhawks 18-5 in the second quarter and rolled from there.
Treena Humphreys scored a game-high 18 points, and Halle Sturgeon added seven points and a team-best 13 rebounds. Sarah Burke and Janyha Ell each scored seven points.
“I thought we played flawless that first quarter,” Lummi coach Albert Toby said in a phone interview. “In that second quarter we kind of had some unforced turnovers, and that lost our confidence a little bit.”
Never miss a local story.
The loss came three days after the Blackhawks (2-8) snapped a losing streak with a win over Highland Christian.
Lummi hosts Grace Academy next at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.
