Lynden’s boys’ basketball team suffered a 53-51 loss to Amador Valley (Calif.) in the Lions’ final game in the Orange Holiday Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif.
Scooter Hastings was named to the all-tournament team.
“He put together four strong games,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “We were able to go watch practice at Cal Poly Pomona today, which is where he’s committed to, so that was fun for the kids.”
The Lions had a chance to win or tie the game thanks to a forced turnover with 3.5 seconds to go, but they turned over the inbound pass. Lynden had led by as much as five, but back-to-back 3-pointers gave Amador Valley the lead.
Never miss a local story.
“Jordan Wittenberg shot the ball well for us,” Roper noted. “For our team as a whole it was a good week to get away, have fun and come together as a team. We hope it will prepare us for the Northwest Conference.”
Lynden re-opens the NWC portion of its schedule at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Anacortes.
