Bellingham’s girls’ basketball team took a close, two-point loss to Oak Harbor on Monday, Dec. 29, at the Bulldog Holiday Classic at Mount Vernon High School.
The Red Raiders were were tied with Oak Harbor at the end of the third, but came up just short.
“It was even all the way,” Bellingham coach Ed Wissing said in a phone interview. “We jumped out to a seven-point lead to start the fourth, but Oak Harbor did a very nice job down the stretch of getting offensive rebounds until they got a bucket. Anytime it’s a one-point game you think of possessions you could have been one possession better. They probably had 10 second-chance points that fourth quarter.”
Bellingham was led by Autumn Jacobsen’s 11 points. Emily Benson added seven.
“It took us awhile to recognize that and get her the ball,” Wissing said of Jacobsen’s strong play. “She was very consistent on the offensive end.”
Bellingham plays again at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Bulldog Holiday Classic at Mount Vernon High School against an opponent to be determined.
