With 21 steals, Nooksack Valley’s girls’ basketball team forced 25 turnovers and rolled to a 50-25 win over Friday Harbor on Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Crush in the Slush Tournament in Port Townsend.
Payton Linville led the Pioneers with 10 points, and was the only Nooksack Valley player to score in double figures. Katrina Gimmaka added five points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
“I was real pleased with the effort and consistency of the game,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “The kids did a good job on defense forcing turnovers. I thought we did a good job moving the ball aorund and looking to take outside shots.”
Mariah Perry had nine points and a team-high six steals for Nooksack Valley, and Rachel Sande added four steals.
Nooksack Valley plays next at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, against Ferndale at home.
