Squalicum’s girls’ basketball team fell victim to an eight-point comeback in the second half in a 40-33 loss to Friday Harbor on Friday, Dec. 26, at the Crush in the Slush Tournament at Port Townsend.
Chalae Wolters led the Storm with eight points and 12 rebounds, and Sarah Hulbert added nine points. Sydney Arndorfer also had seven points and two assists.
“We were just in a fog and couldn’t get it going,” Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “We shot poorly and didn’t move the ball well; wasted possessions. As the game went on, they got more confident and made shots as they needed to. As a coach, I could have helped them out more on offense to get them in easier spots, but when you miss so many shots you don’t know where to take them.”
Maddie Grimstead scored four points and stood out to Wright for hitting shots when she had opportunities.
Squalicum led 16-8 at the half, but was outscored in each of the final two quarters.
Squalicum is back in action at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, against Chimacum at the Crush in the Slush in Port Townsend.
