The Sehome boys’ basketball team could only watch as the Cubs knocked down three free throws with no time on the clock to win 61-58 on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Sehome High School.
The Mariners were ahead by three points before the Cubs tied it with 15 seconds left, stole the ball and then got fouled on a 3-point shot. The foul on the final possession was nothing new to the game, as the Mariners got called for 22 fouls in the game, allowing 30 Sedro-Woolley foul shots.
“We had our chances to win it,” Sehome coach AJ Labree said in a phone interview. “I’m not going to put it on that. We allowed too many offensive rebounds.”
Sehome (6-3, 2-0 NWC) was led by Leif Anderson and Leighton Kingma, who each had 19 points. The Cubs got 17-point efforts from Jackson Price and Will Enniss while Chad Wilberg chipped in 16.
The Mariners hit the hardwood again for the Cloud 9 Christmas Classic on Dec. 29 at Lynden Christian High School, where they will face South Whidbey.
