The Mount Baker boys’ basketball team caught La Conner on a hot shooting night and the Mountaineers committed too many turnovers in a 59-43 non-conference loss Saturday, Dec. 20, at La Conner.
La Conner was 11 of 25 from the 3-point line, and Mount Baker turned the ball over 20 times to the Braves’ nine.
“They just played harder than we did tonight,” Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview. “They found a way to come out with a victory.”
Timothy Soares led the Mountaineers with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and TJ Bass contributed nine points. La Conner’s Taylor Ebersole scored a team-best 18 points.
“Timothy played hard tonight,” Gray said. “He did a nice job for us. ... We didn’t get him enough touches for us to take advantage tonight.”
Baker trailed 27-19 at half and was outscored 32-24 in the final two quarters.
The Mountaineers (2-6, 0-2 NWC), which dropped their fourth straight, has a week-long break before playing Granite Falls next at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, in the Blaine Holiday Classic.
