Lynden’s girls’ basketball team defeated Nooksack Valley 51-42 on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Nooksack Valley.
The Lions’ Elisa Kooiman led the game with 20 points and Kaitlyn Mark added 13. The Pioneers’ Emelia Gimmaka finished with 13 points and Brianna Turner had 10.
“It was a great Northwest Conference basketball game, the energy was great and the intensity was great. I’m proud of how we battled adversity in the second quarter with Kooiman in foul trouble and Jasmyne (Neria) going to the bench,” Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview.
Nooksack Valley was down nine in the fourth quarter and cut Lynden’s lead down to four, but the Lions’ were able to pull away in the end.
“It was a real intense game. We just came up short tonight,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview.
Nooksack Valley will face Sehome next at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Sehome and Lynden takes on Everett at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, at Everett.
