Lummi’s girls’ basketball team suffered a 73-34 loss to Mount Rainier Christian on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Lummi.
The Blackhawks were led by Treena Humphreys’ 21 points, and Jayda Phair added five.
This was Lummi’s third game in three days, and another is on the schedule for Monday.
“You could tell that three games in three nights took its toll,” Lummi coach Albert Toby said in a phone interview. “This is kind of a rough start, but it’s been beneficial for us to get in basketball shape here. Overall we played wit a lot of teamwork, a lot of hustle. We had real good ball movement tonight.”
Janyha Ell and Nicki Revey pitched in four points each for Lummi. Humphreys could have had as many as 50 points, Toby joked.
“What really helped her was she played under control, with a lot more confidence,” Toby added. “After she hit like three out of six free throws, it just kind of ignited her and she got her touch and caught fire.”
Lummi takes on Highland Christian at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, on the road.
