The Nooksack Valley girls’ basketball team was outscored by eight points in the fourth quarter and suffered a 49-41 non-conference loss to La Conner on Saturday, Dec. 13, at La Conner High School.
The loss was the Pioneers’ first of the season, and it snapped their four-game win streak.
Both teams were tied at 31 before the start of the fourth, but the Braves outscored the Pioneers 18-10 in the final frame.
“I think tonight we played a little tentatively on offense,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “We left some open shots on the floor. It was a really close, back-and-forth game, but it was one of those games were we just had a hard time getting the ball in the basket.”
Brianna Turner led the Pioneers with 16 points and also hauled in eight rebounds. Mariah Perry logged six points and three assists, and Katrina Gimmaka had six points and eight boards.
“That was her best game of the year so far,” Wichers said of Turner. “She did a really good job offensively for us, and I was really pleased to see that.”
Nooksack Valley (4-1) opens Northwest Conference play next, hosting Lynden at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16.
