Mount Baker girls’ basketball senior forward Emily Yost broke her previous school scoring record, scoring 46 points to go with 25 rebounds, as the Mountaineers earned a 77-39 non-conference road win against Oak Harbor on Friday, Dec. 12.
“She had a good night,” Mountaineers coach Brenda Ellis joked in a phone interview. “It was our game plan. We wanted to go inside and get (Emily) Brandland and Yost the ball. (Yost) also did a good job of getting offensive boards.”
Brandland chipped in 19 points to go with 10 rebounds, as Mount Baker built an early lead before rolling the rest of the way.
Yost credited the team for her record-breaking performance. Her old best was 39, which she scored to open the year against Meridian last season.
“My teammates did a really good job of feeding me the ball,” Yost said in a phone interview. “The last few games we’ve been rushing shots. We wanted to get into the offensive rhythm, and we did a good job.”
The Mountaineers (5-1) extended their win streak to four games and open Northwest Conference play next with a home matchup against Sehome at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16.
