Lynden Christian’s boys’ basketball team stayed with California powerhouse Brookside Christian, but fell 77-72 on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Christian Cup in Gilbert, Ariz.
The Lyncs were led by Jake Poag’s 23 points. Twenty-one of his points came via 3-pointers, as LC made 12 in the game.
“We had a lot of shots and to get 12 of 20 on 3-pointers is a good night and kept us in the game,” Lynden Christian coach Roger DeBoer said in a phone interview. “I felt like Jo Meppelink did a great job against full-court, man-to-man handling the ball.”
Meppelink finished with four points and a team-high four assists against a team that was runner up for a division five title in California last year, DeBoer said.
Zach Roetcisoender added 19 before he fouled out, and Cody Fransen had 15.
The Lyncs take on Joy Christian, from Arizona, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Christian Cup in Gilbert, Ariz.
