Nooksack Valley’s girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat Squalicum 75-41 on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Nooksack Valley.
The Pioneers put the pressure on the Storm on defense, forcing 29 turnovers. Mariah Perry had seven steals to go with her 20 points and nine assists.
“I thought we just attacked the rim pretty well,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “We got to the basket and made our shots. In the second quarter they slowed us down a bit, but in the second half we stepped up our defense.”
Bailey Molnar led the Storm with 12 points, and Chalae Wolters added 10.
Nooksack Valley’s Brianna Turner added 12 points and Lacey Johnson had 10.
Nooksack Valley hosts Bellingham at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at home. Squalicum hosts Oak Harbor at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at home.
